The first results of an Intel Core i7-11700K in Geekbench appeared online, recording single-core scores that go beyond the i9-10900K, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X and even the Ryzen 9 5950X. The i7-11700K will have 8 cores and 16 threads.

The Intel Core i7-11700K has been tested on Gigabyte's Z490 AORUS Master motherboard with 32GB of system memory. All cores of the chip ran at 5.0 GHz and stable. In terms of performance, the i7-11700K scored 1810 points in single-core testing and 11304 points in multi-core testing. Compared to the i7-10700K, its predecessor, the 11700K is 34% faster in single-thread tests and 26% faster in multi-thread tests.

The new i7 will feature the same core configuration as the Core i9-11900K, but will be manufactured with reduced clock speeds. It seems that the chip has a base clock of 3.60 GHz, boost clock of 5.0 GHz on a single core and 4.6 GHz on all its 8 cores. The CPU will also use the same amount of cache as the i9, the main difference would seem to come from clocks and power limits.

Compared to the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, the CPU is 9% faster in single-thread tests and also 9% faster in multi-thread testing. Compared to the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, the Intel Core i7-11700K is also up to 9% faster and shows that Intel is back ahead of Zen 3 in terms of IPC.

Rocket Lake-S is also noteworthy because it will be Intel's first consumer desktop architecture to offer support for PCI Express 4.0, bringing parity in this regard to AMD's Ryzen platform (X570 and B550 chipsets). This will mainly benefit consumers who want to buy a PCIe 4.0 SSD, with the latest models boasting speeds of up to about 7000 MB/s.

The definitive Intel 11th Gen Rocket Lake lineup will be announced in a few weeks, we just have to wait.
