AMD officially unveiled its Ryzen 5000 processors at an online event, highlighting the capabilities of these new processors, with CEO Lisa Su saying that "the game starts with AMD".

The first Ryzen 5000 CPU that AMD showed was the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, the flagship processor, which will come with 12 cores, 24 threads and a boost of 4.8 GHz. It will have a 105 W TDP.

Players can expect an average performance improvement of 26% to 1080p, compared to the AMD Ryzen 3900XT, according to the company. Zen 3 is the name of the architecture on which AMD Ryzen 5000 processors will be based.

With a significant 19% increase in CPI over the previous generation of PC workloads, the "Zen 3" architecture pushes game performance and content creation leadership to a new level. The "Zen 3" architecture reduces latency from accelerated core and cache communications and doubles the L3 cache that can be accessed directly per core, delivering performance per watt up to 2.8 times faster than Intel.

The top model AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-core offers:

  • The highest single-threaded performance of any desktop gaming processor.
  • The most multi-core performance of any desktop gaming processor and any desktop processor in a mainstream CPU socket.

The 12-core AMD Ryzen 9 5900X offers the best gaming experience with:

  • Average 7% faster in 1080p games on selected game titles than Intel.
  • On average 26% faster in 1080p games on some generational titles.
