Noctua has just released its NH-P1 CPU heatsink and the optional 120mm NF-A12x25 LS-PWM fan. Custom-designed for fanless operation, the NH-P1 is able to cool modern high-end CPUs with low to moderate heat dissipation in a completely passive way.

The NH-P1 model is not only a normal fanless heatsink: with much thicker and much more spaced fins, it reaches both the mass and the minimum airflow resistance needed to excel in natural convection cooling. In fully optimized fanless systems, the NH-P1 is able to cool high-end CPUs with low to moderate heat dissipation using only natural convection. This makes it ideal for powerful builds that work absolutely silently. Completed with Noctua's new Torx-based SecuFirm2+ mounting system, Noctua's award-winning NT-H2 thermal compound and a 6-year manufacturer's warranty, the NH-P1 is definitely a key component for high-quality fanless or semi-passive builds.

In addition to the NH-P1, Noctua has released the optional 120mm NF-A12x25 LS-PWM fan, a PWM-enabled low-speed variant of the award-winning NF-A12x25, ideal for improving NH-P1 performance in semi-passive systems. With a maximum noise level of only 12.1 dB(A), the NF-A12x25 LS-PWM is almost imperceptible, but will significantly increase the performance of the heatsink. Since the fan stops at 0% PWM, it can be easily set up for semi-passive operation so that it starts only when needed. In this way, the system will work most of the time without a fan, but will still provide the flexibility to better use the turbo modes of the most powerful CPUs that require extra airflow to be properly cooled in full load conditions.

Statement from Roland Mossig, CEO of Noctua

The NH-P1 is our very first passive cooler, and it should be easy to see that we didn’t just take a regular heatsink and omit the fan”, says Roland Mossig (Noctua CEO). “A lot of engineering work went into designing this unit for fanless operation from the ground up and we’re truly proud of the end result. In our completely fanless demo system, the NH-P1 cools an Intel Core i9-11900K running Prime95 at more than 3.6GHz – this is a lot of processing power and a whopping 125W kept in check with zero fan noise!
